eLearning Courses typically use these loosely

There are two distinct roles in the eLearning process: Instructional Design and Instructional Development.

Instructional Design

Implementing the vision laid out by the Instructional Developer into an online learning course/event. The Instructional Designer is like the General Contractor building the house. They use the outline from the homeowner, architect, and developer to do the complex heavy lifting that is outlined. The Instructional Designer will work with the team to develop the end result and will communicate about vision, desired end results, and esthetics while not involving the stakeholder with the granular aspects of how they are using variables, shading, triggers, and technical functions within the course.

Instructional Developer

Typically knows how to use eLearning authoring tools and is now in the role of project management with the Stakeholder and the SMEs (Subject Matter Experts). The Stakeholder will work closely with the Instructional Designer to ensure the course is using the best practices, exact verbiage, general layouts, expected outcomes, and course objectives. Instructional Developers will often work with SMEs under the authority of the Stakeholder. SMEs will often give granular insight that has to be deciphered and worked into a curriculum that meets the Stakeholder’s vision and will often report back to the Stakeholder with the details and course layout for approval before involving the Instructional Designer.

Video Based Courses

This extremely popular style of teaching has exploded in popularity over the past few years. The new notion of remote learning is here to stay.

Interactive eLearning Courses

I can work as the sole Designer, or Developer using Articulate Storyline or Rise to develop your course or bring in additional resources to help expedite the process when needed.

Advanced interactive courses can use hundreds of variables, triggers, and events with advanced reporting options to record, report, and measure results.

Blended (Video & HTML) Courses

Blended courses are often found in on a corporately hosted LMS or sites such as teachable.com where HTML courses can be uploaded and retain interactive features to engage the learner. Blended courses use interactions such as Scenarios, Sorting Timeline, Flip cards, Stacking, sorting, and much much more. One of the noteable features is the ability to embed a Storyline 360 block into the course. These courses are typically very engaging while giving the user several chances to practice the course objectives before going live.
