Yesterday, amidst the whirlwind of tasks that define the life of an eLearning Instructional Designer, I stumbled upon a job posting on Fiverr.com that instantly caught my attention. The title read: “Seeking English to Canadian French Articulate Rise Module Translator with Voice-Over Expertise.” My curiosity was piqued. Despite being deeply engrossed in crafting a Storyline 360 course, I felt compelled to explore this new opportunity.
The job’s requirements resonated with me. They were in search of a professional capable of translating Articulate Rise Modules from English to Canadian French and adept in voice-over recording. It felt as though the stars had aligned, presenting a project that not only matched my skill set but also promised a unique challenge. The thought of integrating my linguistic proficiency with my instructional design expertise was exhilarating.
“The blend of translation and voice-over in eLearning design is not just a task; it’s an art that bridges cultures and enhances learning experiences.”

Why did this job post stand out to me? Beyond the immediate alignment with my skills, it hinted at the potential for creative exploration. The nuances of Canadian French, distinct from standard French, promised a challenging yet rewarding translation task. This project was not merely a job; it was a gateway to innovative instructional design, pushing the boundaries of traditional eLearning content.
Reflecting on a previous project where I navigated similar linguistic challenges, I was reminded of the satisfaction derived from overcoming such obstacles. That project, which also involved meticulous translation and voice-over work, was a testament to the impact well-crafted eLearning materials can have on diverse audiences. It was this memory that solidified my interest in the current opportunity.
The job posting detailed the project as follows:
Job Title: Creative English to Canadian French Articulate Rise Translator with Voice-Over Experience Needed
We are looking for a talented translator and voice-over artist to transform an hour-long English Articulate Rise Module into engaging Canadian French. This role requires a deep understanding of Canadian French nuances and prior experience with Articulate Rise. We appreciate quick thinkers who can deliver quality work within a 1-2 day deadline. This project not only demands linguistic prowess but also a mastery of instructional design, making it an exciting opportunity for the right candidate.
The proposed pay range, however, made me ponder the feasibility of taking on this project. Balancing the expected quality with the tight turnaround and the budget constraints required careful consideration.
Job Posting Review Conclusion
After thorough contemplation, I concluded that while the project was enticing, the financial remuneration did not align with the level of expertise and effort required. My decision to not pursue the opportunity was difficult but necessary.
A Graceful No
My response to the hiring manager was crafted with respect and openness for future possibilities. I expressed my appreciation for their consideration and explained my decision, highlighting the importance of a budget that matches the project’s demands. I remain hopeful for future collaborations that align more closely with both parties’ expectations.
In sharing this experience, I hope to inspire fellow eLearning professionals to carefully evaluate opportunities, not just for their potential to challenge and grow our skills, but also for their ability to appropriately compensate for our expertise. Thank you for joining me on this reflective journey.
